  • Thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the planting at the Community Center and weeding on Highway 15 at the Maryland Welcomes you Sign on April 206, 2008. The Community Center will now have a little pop of color with the flowers around the sign and the black-eyed Susans on the highway will have room to grow big and beautiful-they look really healthy.
  • Maryland State Highway Administration’s Partnership Planting Program
  • Have you seen the daffodils blooming on Highway 15, which the Point of Rocks Ruritan Garden Club planted on Saturday, October 20? A group of 12 volunteers along with Leroy Jonas from SHA and a crew of three from Poole Landscaping, Inc. planted along Highway 15 at the Maryland Welcomes You sign.    This was first venture implemented by the Ruritan Garden Club. This project was given first priority due to the high visibility at a key entrance route to the state of Maryland and the community of Point of Rocks.  The group plans to further enhance this area with trees and shrubs as early as next fall.  See the plans…
  • The Frederick County Department of Building and Permits has reviewed and accepted plans for the Point of Rocks Estates median strip project proposed by the Ruritan Garden Club.  A plan by John Harrison of YARD ART Design, L.L.C., was submitted to the Ruritan Garden Club and accepted with some changes in the plan. The design must meet certain criteria for county approval including a clear sight line, ease of maintenance, no obstructions and devoid of trees due to the sewer system that runs under the median. Volunteers will be called on for additional planting of liriope and mulching of the site.
  • The Ruritan Garden Club has raised funds and is currently accepting donations to be used towards this project to help cover the cost of plants and the cost of the administrative permit fees.  Fundraisers for this project have included handmade items sold at Founder’s Day and the Houses of Worship Tour held in December as well as volunteer money earned at a recent Maryland Horse Trails in which volunteers parked cars and horse trailers.  The Ruritan Garden Club is grateful for the recent donations contributed.   If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to this project, checks may be made payable to Community Foundation of Frederick County with PORR Garden Club in the subject line.
A special thank you to our recent donors for the Bowis Drive Beautification Project:
Thomas & Trudy Toman
Yadira & Bob Weissend
Larry & Sandy Rucosky
Tamsen & Ira Jerry Dozier
  • The Garden Club is a place to exchange ideas and information, make new friends while we help beautify the town.   Whether you are interested in the topics presented by the guest speakers, or in getting your hands dirty we would love to have you join us. If you have plants that you would like to donate to future endeavors it would appreciated.  Please contact Andrea and Ryan Williams if you have ideas for speakers and topics, or future initiatives for the Point of Rocks community.

Have a picture of your garden in bloom? Send it in and we may post it! The below photos are from the gardens of Andrea Williams, Ron Kohler and Beth Marcott.
